Cataract surgery is one of the safest and most frequently performed surgical procedures in the world. 

How is it performed? 

Phacoemulsification lens extraction (PHACO) with the implantation of an intraocular lens (IOL) is the gold standard in cataract surgery. It is a surgery in which a 1.8 to 2.75 mm ultrasound probe passes through an incision to remove an opaque lens (cataract) and implant a clear, artificial lens. Thanks to the minimal incision, the wound heals quickly and it doesn't require stitches.

Is the surgery painful?

The surgery is performed under local anesthesia by applying eye drop anesthetic. It is painless and takes 10-15 minutes. Cataract surgery does not carry any risk to human health and can also be performed on the elderly and ill patients, without complications.

When can I leave the hospital?  

The patient is discharged 15 minutes after surgery. If the cataract is in both eyes, the surgery can be performed on both eyes on the same day.
