Noctura400 is a new way of treating diabetic retinopathy and is available at the clinic Svjetlost. It is a mask that glows a pleasant green LED light at night and is worn over the eyes like an ordinary sleeping mask. Scientific studies have shown that diabetic retinopathy is the result of damage to the ocular circulation in the people suffering from diabetes and that the retina does not get enough oxygen. As the most oxygen in the eyes is consumed in the dark, it is a state when the eye is most starved for oxygen and is under most duress. The answer to this duress is the production of the excess of the VEGF factor, which is responsible for the bleeding and swelling in the macula, i.e. diabetic retinopathy.

Studies have shown that if the eye is not in total darkness during the night, it has less requirements for oxygen and is not as starved, and therefore the progression of diabetic retinopathy is slower. This sleeping mask, Noctura400, passed all the tests related to harmlessness and effectiveness and received approval for the use in the EU, i.e. the CE mark. It can be used either alone or combined with anti-VEGF injections and the laser in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy. In addition to simple and pleasant application, the treatment is also less costly than in the case of intraocular injections.
