Education

Dr. Melisa Ahmedbegović Pjano graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Sarajevo in 2001, and she completed her specialization in the field of ophthalmology in 2005. Since 2001, she has worked at the Eye Clinic Svjetlost Sarajevo  .

After completing the postgraduate studies, she defended her master's thesis entitled "The role of pachymetry in the approach to patients with primary open angle glaucoma, normal-tensive glaucoma and ocular hypertension."

Doctoral dissertation defended on the thesis "Comparison of results of implantation of two types of phakic IOLs for the correction of myopia" in 2017. 

In April 2018. she was given the title of Primarius in health care through contributions in long-term work.

She was elected to the position of assistant of professor in 2023 at University of Sarajevo.

Field of work

Dr. Ahmedbegović Pjano is engaged with the front segment of the eye and refractive surgery. She underwent training in the field of refractive surgery in Zagreb, under the mentorship of prof. Nikica Gabrić and dr. Maja Bohač. Dr. Pjano is specialized in the field of refractive surgery and has so far carried out around 15.000 laser vision correction surgeries.

Publications and Research

She participated in numerous professional meetings, workshops and conferences in the field of ophthalmology, both at home and abroad, so she is continuing her education in the field. 

Membership in associations

Member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Croatian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Regularly participates as an active speaker at the annual meetings of the above associations.
