Corneal Transplantation
Corneal transplant surgery is done without waiting lists, 365 days a year.
Our experts prof. Nikica Gabrić, PhD and prof. Iva Dekaris, PhD are Croatian pioneers of corneal transplantation with ocular tissue the quality of which was tested in certified eye bank. They are the founders of the first Croatian eye bank established in 1995, the authors of the first Croatian book on eye banking and co-authors of two European textbooks on eye banking and corneal transplantation. Our most experienced surgeons have performed more than a thousand corneal transplants during their 20 years of experience. Prof. Iva Dekaris, PhD was the President of the European Eye Bank Association (2010-2013), now acts as EEBA Vicepresident, and was re-elected by the European experts to become President of EEBAfor a period of 2019 to 2022.
We are the only clinic in Croatia and among the few in the world both the conventional DSAEK and improved method UT-DSAEK for endothelial lamellar transplantation
The most modern method, lamellar transplantation (DSAEK and UT-DSAEK) was performed for the first time in Croatia and the whole of South East Europe in the clinic Svjetlost. The clinic today is an internationally recognized transplant center to which 40% of the patients come from abroad. The clinic Svjetlost applies an individual approach to all patients when it comes to choosing the most suitable donor tissue.
